January Book Haul | 2022

How is January over already?!  I’ve been working remotely again for the entirety of January and I cannot believe a whole month of 2022 is already behind us.  I’m still working out the kinks of my New Year’s goals and I cannot even tell you how hard it was to read two books before allowing myself to buy a new one.  One thing I hadn’t thought about was how re-reads would come into play.  I ultimately decided that I had to read two TBR books before buying a new TBR book since the ultimate goal is to reduce my physical TBR.  I still haven’t decided how books sent to me by publishers will work but nonetheless, I’m really proud of my progress.  I bought 9 TBR books in January and I received 4 TBR books from publishers.  Here are all of the books I bought and received in January!

Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci – My first book purchase of the year! I bought Stanley Tucci’s memoir at Shakespeare & Co. on New Years Day and I’m waiting for the audiobook to come off hold at my library so I listen to him narrate as I follow along in the physical book.

The Idiot by Elif Batuman – This Pulitzer Prize finalist was a bit of an impulse purchase for me on day two of the New Year when Andrew and I stopped at McNally Jackson.  I read the first page in the store and I was intrigued so I decided to pick it up. I haven’t gotten around to reading it just yet but I’ll certainly be reviewing it when I do.

When You Get the Chance by Emma Lord – I obviously read Emma Lord’s newest as soon as it came out and I really loved it. It’s a reverse Mamma Mia story that takes place in NYC and is chock full of Broadway love. I reviewed it earlier this month!

Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins – I can’t wait to get to this book (in fact, it’s on my February TBR!).  It’s a gothic suspense novel set on an isolated Pacific island with a dark history.  I’m craving all the thrillers this year!

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley – Speaking of thrillers, I really enjoyed The Guest List, and I wanted to check out Lucy Foley’s earlier releases before The Paris Apartment comes out next month.  You’ll be seeing that one in my next haul.

The Maid by Nita Prose – I still have to write my review for The Maid, but I read and loved this book already! I even attended the Random House book club this month so I could hear Nita speak about it.  Such an unexpected new favorite!

The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes – This is the second book in the Inheritance Games series and I want to catch up before the final book comes out in the fall.  I love love love Jennifer Lynn Barnes so I’ve been eyeing this one for a while.  It’s also on my  February TBR.

Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight Vol 12 by Rin Mikimoto – I cannot even tell you how many years this final volume of manga was delayed by but oh wow was it worth the wait! This is definitely one of my favorite manga series and I’m so glad to have finally gotten the conclusion. I read it the second I opened my parcel!

Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media by Jaron Lanier – I was able to buy this book as an extra because it wasn’t a TBR book. I listened to the audiobook from my library and I gave it 5 stars so I knew I wanted a physical copy for my shelves.  It tackles my favorite topic and the arguments were very compelling.  I reviewed it earlier this month!

The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock and Big Life by Hillarie Burton Morgan – Also reviewed this one earlier this month in the same post!  I’ve since started rewatching One Tree Hill, listening to the drama queens podcast and making Hillarie’s magic potion drink.  It’s also another non-TBR book I was able to buy since I listened to it on audio first.

How to Fail at Flirting by Denise Williams – This is the last book I purchased this month after consulting with Alexa and Rachel and having them vote on what to go with! I’ve been curious about this romance for a while now so I’m excited to pick it up soon.

The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberly & Austin Siegmund-Broka – I’ve loved Emily and Austin’s first two YA books so when they announced an adult romance, I was 100% on board.  The premise reminds me of Beach Read by Emily Henry.

*Thank you to Berkley Romance for sending me a copy!

Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon – This is one of my most anticipated romances of the year and will likely be the first book I pick up in February.  I loved Rachel Lynn Solomon’s The Ex Talk and her next novel takes place at a TV station in Seattle following a meteorologist and a sports reporter scheming to get their divorced bosses back together.

*Thank you to Berkley Romance for sending me a copy!

Barbarian Alien by Ruby Dixon – I feel like everyone has been talking about these blue alien romance books and I have to know what all the hype is about! I now have books one and two sitting on my TBR cart and I’m pretty eager to pick them up.

*Thank you to Berkley Romance for sending me a copy!

Ain’t Burned All the Bright by Jason Reynolds & Jason Griffin – I read this beautiful book in one sitting .  It’s largely an art book with a very minimal amount of words depicting what it’s like to be Black in America.  I was surprised at how moving it was in so few words.  Full review to come!

*Thank you to Simon & Schuster for sending me a copy!
